Mujeeb Jaihoon

Why Conceal?

A fervent longing to see the Beloved echoing a universal voice to those yearning for a spiritual connection with Holy Prophet.

Your slaves have rushed here
To utter wishes of every hue.

They have wants
Of health and wealth;
To be free from trials
Of debts and deaths.

To enter Jannah,
To escape Jahannam;
For righteous children,
For virtuous spouses,
For cozy blessings,
And innumerable fortunes.

They have the right to seek,
For, You have set no limits.
“Ask, ask, and ask again,”
For, You love to be asked.

I too dare to curry favor,
Though I am not of ‘saint-flavor.’
Flattered by Your ‘Qadr-offer’,
I am crossing the Law’s border.

Yes, I am wretched—
Worse than the worst.

Blackened by sins,
Faults like mountains.

Stained by misdeeds,
Crimes so unspeakable.

Yet I dare arrogantly,
Yet I desire foolishly.

Like Jami, I beg
For my wine and cup.
Deprive me not,
Bereave me not.

This is the night to ask;
This is my right to seek.
Grant, give, ya Wadood!
Respond, reply, ya Wahhab!

I ask with every human letter
Said and written in every corner.
I ask with my sobbing tears
And throbbing heart’s shivers.

I cannot articulate better,
Yet I suffer this love-torture.
None else can deliver me
From this desire-prison.

Is this too much to ask?
If not lovers, who else will seek?

I ask no more, O Most Loving,
Just once to quell my longing.

If not tonight,
Then which night?
A single and simple wish I ask:
Forgive; take me not to task.

For once, ya Rabb,
And just once—
Just a glance:
Mustafa’s face.

A glimpse of his
Suffices to life entice;
I will gain riches
Of both worlds.

I am of his caravan;
Loved him since young,
Heard of him since an infant,
Yet not seen him for a moment.

Why conceal him, Ya Raheem?
Let us too see Your ‘Meem.’
Quench our thirst;
End this tribulation.

Whether You accept or refuse,
I will plead forever in excess.
As long as I have a tongue,
And air passes through my lungs,

My heart will beat in his love;
My lips will move in his praise.

I narrate my pain,
For, I know there are many
Who bleed in his desire
And burn in his fire.
