Mujeeb Jaihoon

The Souvenir

Mujeeb Jaihoon’s response to those who enquire about what gifts has the poet brought from the land of Meem.

Gifts and presents
Entice lovers:
“What have you brought us
From the land of the Meem-sojourn?”

Replied I:

“I have neither antiques
Nor any souvenirs.
Rather, with me is a bag of gems—
Seen by neither Jinn nor Ins.

More invaluable than any gifts,
Inimitable are they in looks.”

  1. SubhanAllah!! The sojourn by itself is a gift, a marvel, which is unparalleled. The last two lines are so profound, “Invaluable than any gifts, Inimitable are they in looks”.
