The Cosmic Envy

Wine fell unconscious and the Cup shattered into pieces as the Rose smiled blushing when a Lover lingered at Medina- writes Mujeeb Jaihoon

I became the envy of angels;
Hoors lined up for a glimpse.

I became the talk
Of the Cosmos—
Moon and stars
Vied for my light.

Wine fell unconscious,
The cup shattered into pieces.

The Rose smiled, blushing;
The Nightingale cried with joy.

I know not the secret:
What caused this tumult?

Perhaps my heart
Had soaked well,
In the love-soaked Zamzam
Of Medina’s Spring.
