A heartfelt prayer by two slaves to the Divine expressing their pain and joy, seeking liberation and divine love.

The joy and pain
Of His lovers shown
Only to the One
Who in their hearts rein

They can suffer
No other plight
In Him alone
Can they delight

Last night
Two slaves gathered
As their silent prayer
I overheard

“Give us not
The pain of this world
But the pain
Of Your Merciful Love

Let your Love
Be our constant cry
Liberate us from
The bread-hurry

Hey the stone
Of our souls’ ring!
Our tears:
Your Spring

The Love-drops that
On our cheeks run
Is dear than
The rivers in the heaven

Suffice Your do’s
Save from Your Don’ts
We say
But by Your sway!

Withhold not
This fortune
Make us not like
The lifeless stone

We worshiped You
Day and night
Yet not for once
You came to sight

Our hearts
Simply believed
The words
Of Your Beloved

Your Signs:
Evident all over
Your Self:
Apparent nowhere

Yet we call,

Ya Hayy!
Ya Qawiyy!

Hey Most high!
Hey our heart’s plea!
