The pain of loss is intensified not by the loss itself, but by the unknown reason for its occurrence.

Pain and Life are inseparable twins. When I learn about some of the most gruesome trials people endure, I can’t help wondering if they were created for each other. As if tears rest in the cradle of life and life drowns in the sea of tears.

Pain comes in many forms and sizes. There is no one pain which fits all. But among them, the most intense may be the pain of loss. We may be robbed of wealth or other possessions. However, the loss of loved ones, by death or conflicts, is perhaps the greatest loss we could ever imagine.

The pain we undergo for loss of anything or anyone is twofold. The pain we undergo for the loss of anything or anyone is twofold. First, the loss itself. Second, not knowing the reason for that loss. The latter would haunt us more brutally than the former. Failing to decode the reason for the loss is equally frustrating for the intellect and the heart. We come across several instances, including from our own lives, where our pain was halved as we discovered the reason and rationale behind our material or mental losses.

May Almighty replace our losses with even better than the ones we lost in the first place, and grant us the wisdom to accept the divine rationale even when the reason is hidden. May broken bonds and hearts heal better than hitherto. If so, then the loss will actually turn to a gain for the soul.
