Although we remain soiled by the sinful dust, the sight of a devout servant of God will invoke His Love in our hearts- writes Mujeeb Jaihoon
Few days back,
I saw a noble light,
Which shone like pink,
As the horizon bright.
Ever since that light,
Passed in front of me,
Tears flow without
Any end, endlessly.
Why?
Such fearful faith:
Do I lack?
Robbed of His love,
My soul is black.
Why?
In that light,
Resides a noble silence,
But in me is an impatient voice,
Yearning for His guidance.
By end and means,
This light shines like a lance,
To reach such a stage,
I’ll need more than just chance.
For a while, I dwelt,
On that dreamy light,
Then I thought about,
The One who made it so bright.
Who gave it,
Eyes so chaste?
A heart of beauty
That lasts?
Who adorned it,
With modest garments so neat?
Who put in,
Its mouth, words so sweet?
Such beauty,
Is it of its own?
Or from the faith,
Of the Only One?
The light continued,
To shine so bright,
Like a pearl,
From a goldmine’s site.
I thought about,
Noorun-ala-Noor,
Who fashioned this,
Earthly noor.
And then resolved:
Forget the gift,
Remember the Giver.
Forget the rose,
Remember the Gardener.
But:
A rose remains a rose
Although the same depth
Of its Him-Loving Faith
I shall not reach across
Therefore, from long before,
My heart has become sore,
To be like that sweet rose:
His love in my heart aroused.
I try my best,
To win the bewildering test,
As did Mustafa speak,
His every move I seek.
All night long,
In prayers do I sob,
Like a beggar do I linger,
At the gates of His favor.
I know for sure,
The more I ask of Him,
The easier my task,
And the more favors I seek,
The greater He provides.
I try my best,
Though soiled I am by sinful dust,
Toiling along without any rest,
Before Him, I lay my request.
Why?
So that one day,
I too can boldly say,
“My merciful Him,
Who loves me.”
