I call You with so sweet a name

Can the Lover resist a reply when asked in the name of the Beloved— contents Mujeeb Jaihoon as he bargains by one Beautiful name after another

Do You not
Hear the sound
Of the tears
Falling on the ground?

Do You not see the scene
Of my cheeks swollen with pain?

Ya Mujeeb ad-Dawaat!
Did You not
In the Quran utter
‘Call Me, and
I shall answer?

Ya Jameel!
What are those
Beautiful names
Whereby my call
Answerable seems?

Ya Qareeb!
You are closer
Than my own vein
Why then do I feel
My call is in vain?

Ya Jabbar!
Did I not fill the hearts
Of Your servants:
With Your Love
Full of confidence?

Ya Razzaq!
Many have drunk
From Jaihoon’s stream
But now for a drop
Does he silently scream

Ya Raoof!
I have played every note
On my wailful flute
Hoping soon shall come
A heavenly salute

Believe me, Ya Allaamal Ghuyoob!
In thoughts and words—
Known and unknown
Have I not called You
With every beautiful noun?

And now I call You
With so sweet a name
On earth nor heavens
Is a title of its same:

This crazy apostate wonders
If the Lover can a reply resist
When in the Beloved’s name
Is made a polite request?

‘O my Merciful Him!’
Would You still withhold
The one in Your Love-bound?
