Mujeeb Jaihoon engages with students at The White School International, exploring the power of words, mental health and AI’s limitations.
Calicut, Kerala – February 21, 2025: Acclaimed mystic poet and author Mujeeb Jaihoon delivered a thought-provoking speech at The White School International, highlighting the enduring power of words in an increasingly technology-driven world. Speaking on the topic “Way with Words,” he addressed senior-grade students, emphasizing literature’s role in mental well-being and the importance of timeless human values.
Jaihoon raised concerns about the deterioration of mental health despite advancements in technology, arguing that digital tools have done little to improve emotional well-being. Instead, he championed the healing power of literature. Sharing a personal anecdote, he mentioned how his nine-year-old daughter turns to books—particularly Harry Potter—as a source of comfort, describing reading as a remedy for sadness.
He underscored the permanence of virtues like dedication, truthfulness, justice, and morality, stating that while the world continues to evolve, these principles remain unchanged. “Even in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, values like justice and morality are indispensable,” he said.
Addressing the role of technology, Jaihoon cautioned against an overreliance on artificial intelligence. “AI can generate text, but it lacks the depth, emotion, and imperfection of human poetry,” he noted, stressing the unique qualities of human creativity.
He also highlighted the historical power of words, citing Allama Iqbal’s Tarānah-e-Hindi as an example of poetry that fueled India’s independence movement. “Many nations have been inspired to seek freedom through poetry,” he remarked.
Emphasizing the value of language, he stated, “Diamonds may be given away for free, but words are priceless.” He warned that society is moving toward an era of “machine-like men and men-like machines,” underscoring the need to preserve human expression and ethical values.
Following the speech, Jaihoon was honored with a memento from the school. The White School International, run by the Hilite Group, has previously hosted distinguished guests, including writer and politician Shashi Tharoor, reinforcing its commitment to intellectual and literary engagement.
