Jaihoon’s haunting love poem grapples with the mysterious nemesis of lovers which shatters their sweet dreams and desires.
I felt at unease;
My love, at tease.
I embraced her close,
Yet feared her loss.
She saw my sweat and fear,
And my eyes look elsewhere.
“What has put
Your heart on fire?
Has my lover
Turned to a liar?
What secret
Do you hide?
If you love another,
Then with me confide,”
Replied I,
“For past few weeks,
I have been in pains.
My heart trembles;
In fear, it humbles.
When I see you approach,
I see Her too encroach.
I wish to love you,
At all times.
But She shatters,
All my hopes.
Both of you,
Are as real.
I cannot deny,
You either.
She comes uninvited,
To have lovers frightened.
A nightmare of life is she,
A pirate of lovers’ sea is she.
The ridicule of love, her hobby;
She cares not for any lobby.
Ah! Death is her name,
Separation is her game.
