Preserve your dreams beyond death—just as a flame endures even after the wax melts away—inspires Mujeeb Jaihoon.
It is a great honor and joy to be with you today at this institution, Liwa-ul Huda, the Banner of Guidance. Just in its name rests the very essence of the noble mission your parents and community have placed in your hands. Every name we encounter—yours, mine, that of your college—holds a purpose, either hidden or plainly seen.
In the years to come, as you graduate from this institution and step into the wider world, you will embark on the journey of realizing the dreams that have quietly grown within you. To nurture them, you’ll lean on both the spiritual and material blessings that Allah, the Most Merciful, has granted.
Allow me to share a suggestion—one I hope will benefit you, insha’Allah.
Take a moment to reflect on the legacy of our great scholars. Consider the works of Imam al-Ghazzali or Imam al-Shafi’i. Why, you might ask, do we still study their thoughts and wisdom today? They are no longer here to promote their teachings or share their insights in person. And yet, their works endure—imbued with sincere intentions and prayers that they would benefit generations long after their departure from this world.
You, too, can hold such a prayer: that your dreams continue to glow and guide others even when you are no longer here.
Dear friends, remember this: you are the candle, and your dream is the flame. Even when the candle melts away, the flame must burn on—brightly and beautifully, insha’Allah.
You may find this idea poetic, perhaps even strange. But rivers, too, have always fascinated me. The serene flow of the Chaliyar river near your college is one of the reasons I was drawn to be here today. And, incidentally, “Jaihoon” is the name of a river elsewhere—something I feel deeply connected to.
As you continue your journey, let your hearts carry dreams that are luminous, intentional, and eternal. May they illuminate paths for others, just as you were guided by those who came before. May you walk in grace, and may your light never fade.
