Amidst the chaos and confusion, the poet grapples with his own inner demons in search of a sense of reality and sanity— by Mujeeb Jaihoon.

Amid the arresting chimes and rings
Of the Distractive Devil’s strings,
I looked for reality,
I searched for sanity.

I became the prey
To the once-hunt-play,
I could not cry:
Even as pain drew nigh.

Worse than a machine,
I became a demon mean.

For the past few days,
I was worse than lost:
Who, where, and why,
I could not verify.

Soul rusted,
Life wasted,
Eyes dried,
Ears deafened.

In the night, I wailed
“Let my humanity be unveiled”
