The Merciful Messenger: Universal Justice of Humanity’s Ultimate Defender

“

History has never witnessed another spiritual leader who pledged to bear witness against his own community if they oppressed those of other faiths—writes Mujeeb Jaihoon

The final Messenger of Allah was an advocate for every single section of creation on this earth. He was a vocal defender of all the oppressed sections of humanity, including children, women, and the elderly.

In the history of world religions lies a striking phenomenon perhaps found nowhere more distinctly than in the legacy of the final Prophet: a community’s spiritual leader who champions the rights of other faiths, even to the point of bearing witness against his own followers.

The Messenger gave us the stern warning, and non-Muslims the glad tidings, that if Muslims in positions of power or strength oppress or mistreat non-Muslims, he himself will testify against those Muslims on the Day of Judgment, standing as an advocate for the aggrieved non-Muslims. In all of human history, such a declaration has only ever been made by the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Therefore, the Messenger is an advocate not only for human beings, but for the ants, the camels, the deer, and the birds as well. He is an animal rights activist, a champion for women’s rights, and a universal human rights advocate—the Merciful Messenger is all of these.

Hence, we celebrate the privilege of belonging to his caravan and hope of standing in his noble company in the hereafter.
