Daughters are worth more than Diamonds

Challenging societal norms, Jaihoon exposes the troubling practice of equating daughters’ value with material possessions.

Campus
It is during our college years that we make crucial decisions and embark on a journey of self-discovery, finding our true passions and professions. In this pursuit, there is no greater source of inspiration than love.

Paddy. Field. Sickle

Today, as we gather here in the beautiful state of Kerala, I would like to draw a comparison between our college life and the art of cultivation. Just as a field requires nurturing, our lives need careful attention and dedication. The fruits we reap from this cultivation are none other than poetry and literature. Poetry, in particular, represents the bountiful harvest we attain from the field of life. And it is love that acts as the tool, the sickle, ensuring our yield. The sharper the sickle, the greater the joy we experience.

Cultivation holds immense significance in our modern world, especially here in Kerala. We face the imminent danger of food crises, threatening our very existence on this planet. Instead of flexing their political and sectarian muscles, religious and social organizations must redirect their energy to confront this crisis head-on.

Language

Language is the king of all knowledge. Other subjects are its soldiers. Mastering the art of beautiful language grants us authority, captivating the world around us. Language serves as a medium to enhance our presentation of personality. Furthermore, literature stands as the bedrock of a civilization’s cultural legacy. The scriptures of all religions are primarily literary in nature, not confined to science or technology alone.

Daughters are Worth more than Diamonds

It is very unbecoming of Kerala’s jewelry outlets to promote its products by equating daughters’ worth only as good as its diamonds collection. These advertisements depict a degrading image of daughters, reducing them to mere objects for the superficial purpose of adorning them with gold and diamonds.

Let us embrace our college years as a time of self-discovery and passion. Harness the power of language to create a lasting impact, and strive for equality, ensuring that our daughters are valued for their intrinsic worth and not solely for material possessions.
