Musa (as) had experienced similar circumstances in his earlier life. He had also killed a Coptic man (by mistake) before migrating to Madyan. When he reached Madyan, he offered to help the daughters of the old man and asked for nothing in return. While an infant, his mother had cast him in the river (placing in a basket) (Quran 28: 7). Musa’s experiences with Khidr were reminiscent of these earlier incidents in his life.

The place where the dead fish escaped was where Khidr was found. This signifies two things. Firstly, the nature of Khidr’s knowledge: the dead fish became alive in the rocky area where Khidr dwelled. Only true God-given knowledge can enliven dead hearts. Secondly, it was the also the place where they forgot: Man-made knowledge faints in the vicinity of knowledge given by Allah

A saint once calculated his sins @ one per day for sixty years that he lived which measured up to 21 thousand plus. Shocked at the number, he screamed and died the same time. Ibn Abbas said that small sins include the smile for a sinful cause.
