Nur Beg is the legal guardian of more than 100 adopted children whom he cares for as much his own.
Cholpon-Ata, Issyk Kul, Kyrgyzstan (Jun 5 2022): Issyk Kul in Kyrgyzstan is known for the vast lake, seventh deepest in the world, with snow mountains and resorts. It is most visited tourist attraction in the country luring visitors from within and neighboring countries. However, Issyk Kul is also home to a more fascinating humanitarian attraction which is far more beautiful than the lifeless rocks or water bodies.
In the town of Cholpon-Ata, resort town on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, is located the SOS Children’s Village, a child adoption care center. Comprising of family houses, an administration and service area, a sports field, the institution is led by its director, Nur Beg.
Mr. Beg is passionate about psychology and has attended several seminars worldwide. He is the legal guardian of more than 100 adopted children whom he cares for as much his own. These children hail from broken families or poor backgrounds who are not fortunate to enjoy their childhood blessings.
Spotting a black tshirt, the humble child adoption activist welcomed us with a barbecued fish, which he said was freshly caught from the Lake Issyk Kul. He also presented us the honeycomb, fondly harvested in his backyard garden.
In our discussion over the fish meal, Mr. Beg was dismayed at the lack of Islamic scholars in psychology discipline. He hoped to quote more Muslim psychologists, besides the predominantly European experts, in his upcoming seminars. However, I argued that Imam Ghazal was an exceptional genius whose insights of the human mind benefitted many experts.
I presented him a copy of ‘Slogans of the Sage’, my compilation of quotations by Sayyid Muhammad Ali Shihab Thangal (1936 – 2009), the late Indian stateman and philanthropist. Also present was Dr. Bahauddeen Muhammed Nadwi, vice chancellor of Darul Huda Islamic University (Kerala, India).
