Freedom does not come in a gift box that one can order online— asserts Jaihoon in the Freedom Talk at SIGN IAFS Independence Day celebrations.
It is indeed an electrifying experience as we celebrate Indian Independence Day, salute the flag, and recite the national anthem. It heralds the sacrifices of our beloved freedom fighters who lost their lives and sacrificed their loved ones for us to enjoy peace and freedom. We have to learn from them the lessons of love, patience, harmony, and unity. Today, as we live through the fast-paced world, we have to acknowledge that the freedom struggle was not an Insta-moment decorated with photo filters. Indian Independence Day was not only a lesson for Indians but also inspired resistance across the world. Our leaders are globally accepted icons of growth and prosperity. Independence does not come easy, but with struggles and challenges.
I do not claim that we are living in a totally rosy situation in our nation. There are many challenges we still need to overcome. Freedom does not come in a gift box that you can order online. It is to be earned and fought for. Sacrifices are at the heart of any free society.
That brings us to the important question: what have we contributed to the development of this nation? We are all concerned with our rights and never bothered about our responsibilities. India has become a world player to reckon with. No civilized country can ignore this land. Though we gloat about our heroic forefathers, we are empty-handed when it comes to our own contributions. Real superheroes contribute to society rather than indulging in rosy retrospection. I conclude by asking myself and others: how much nectar have we contributed to the beehive of national growth?
The momentary hardships we face today should not deter us from loving our motherland. We need to strive with hope and optimism. We should not let these challenges corrupt our love for our nation, just as we love our biological mother. We have to free ourselves from the misconceptions and suspicions we harbor towards our countrymen.
An ideal Indian is also a model global citizen. He or she is free from hate and prejudice towards fellow humanity. Education and determination are the hallmarks of the Indian tribe.
