Kerala Education Hysteria Created New Social Challenges, says Jaihoon

Muslim Kerala’s unrestrained Educational hysteria may create gender imbalances and marital discords in Community— asserts Mujeeb Jaihoon at the MIC gathering in Dubai | May 14 2018

Dubai (May 14, 2019): The social engineering project by Kerala Muslims in the past three decades have miraculously raised the bar of their community’s educational and economical progress. However, as with every other human development, their strides in Education has also created new challenges which has perplexed the social scientists and community activists, said Mujeeb Jaihoon, prominent UAE-based Indian author. He was addressing the Suhoor gathering organized by MIC (Malik bin Deenar Islamic Complex) Sharjah and Northern Emirates Forum.

‘All human developments come with side effects. The much celebrated Industrial Revolution, too , came with new set of problems including pollution and traffic congestions. Similarly, unrestrained Educational hysteria may create gender imbalances, marital discords and economic disparities’, added Jaihoon while referring to the increasing divorce rates and family conflicts among Kerala Muslims. “Students who otherwise perform well academically, are, unfortunately, ill-equipped to face the realistic expectations of job market and means to build a morally sound family life”, he said.

Digital Parenting

“The challenge of gadget addiction among our little children is another lifestyle threat which has invaded our living rooms. ‘Digital Parenting’ has disconnected children and parents and erected Himalayan walls between them”, cautioned Jaihoon.

Inclusivity and Tolerance

‘The recent developments around the world demand the education experts to dedicate more chapters in the syllabi to promote inclusivity and tolerance in the Community, especially in a multi-religious country like India’, reminded Jaihoon.

UAE: Iconic Philanthropy

‘Although the rooftops of the educational buildings are located in Kerala, their pillars are, however, planted in the Middle East’, observed Jaihoon while commenting on the patronage and support rendered by Kerala’s NRI community, especially in UAE. ‘The Kerala expatriates in the Emirates are an exemplary crowd in philanthropy and social support’.

The MIC started at Kaipamangalam, the coastal area of Thrissur District, in 1988, with help of residents and overseas patrons. An umbrella institution of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama (organization of Kerala’s Islamic clergy), the institutions run under its management include students hostel for boys and girls, civil service coaching center, ladies prayer hall and reference library. MIC has relatively fared well in providing refuge for the orphans, self-dependence for the women and proving proper guidance to the youth. The most notable of their endeavors is the Al Birr Pre Primary School, which is targeted at developing sound moral habits in children from the age of three.

The gathering was attended by prominent industrialists, educationists as well as community activists. Shihaz Sulthan (Ajson group) welcomed the guests while Abdul Jabbar (Hotpack) presented the presidential address. CA Rasheed, President of Trichur District Kerala Muslim League, delivered the inaugural address and felicitation speeches were given by Dr. Mohamed Kasim (Chairman and Paediatrician Al Shifa medical group), V.A. Hassan (Chairman and CEO of Flora Group Hotels), Anwar Naha (Dubai Kerala Muslim Cultural Center), Faisal AK (corporate executive director, Malabar Gold), Abdul Rahman (Med7 Group of Pharmacies) and TKC Abdul Kader Haji (UAE Sunni Council Treasurer). MK Athavanad Ustad, Manager MIC Kaipamangalam, explained the recent projects at MIC Kaipamangalam. MIC Sharjah and Northern Emirates Forum Committee members including Abdul Hameed, Ismail Kaipamangalam and Gafoor Hudawi also participated.
